#33The girls hurried down the steps.

#34Look! shouted Joy.

#35Grandpa is trying to get the chickens in their coop.

#36The girls ran to help.

#37They chased the squawking birds.

#38Shoo! they cried.

#39Dust spun through the air.

#41One by one the chickens ducked through the coop door.

#42Run to the house, called Grandpa.

#44Mom was waiting on the back porch.

#51She grabbed her captain cap from a hook by the door and put it on.

#53she declared as she went to the closet.

#54She took a box from a shelf and carried it to the kitchen table.

#55Flashlight.

#56First aid kit.

#57Water.

#58Snacks.

#59Mom, are the pillows and blankets ready?

#60Right here, said Mom, pointing to a basket under the table.

#61I wish Dad would come home, Joy said worriedly.

#62Just as Grandpa opened the screen door, the music on the radio stopped.

#63An announcer came on.

#64The National Weather Service has put out a tornado warning for Boone County.

#65Current severe thunderstorms could produce a tornado.

#66Towns in the warning include Willow Creek .

#67A tornado warning!

#68shouted Katie.

#69That means TAKE COVER!

#70I'll open the storm cellar, Grandpa said.

#71Mom picked up her basket, and Katie picked up her box.

#72I've got the radio, said Joy.

#73Outside a blast of rain and cool air hit them in the face.

#74It's so dark!

#75Katie said.

#76Dad! shouted Joy as Dad's truck sped up the driveway.

#77Grandpa held open the door to the storm cellar.

#78Hurry! he called.

#79Magoo! yelled Katie.

#80Come on, boy!

#81She and the dog dashed down the cellar steps.

#82Where's Jellybean?

#83cried Joy.

#84Mom put an arm around Joy's shoulder.

#85Sorry, sweetie.

#86There's no time to look for the cat right now, she said.

#88, Joy whispered.

#89Then she and Mom followed Katie down the steps.

#90Grandpa was right behind them.

#91Dad pulled the cellar door shut and fastened it tight.

#92Magoo shook water from his fur.

#93Mom grabbed blankets and pillows from her basket.

#94Take these, she said to the twins.

#95They could hear the rain pounding on the cellar door.

#96Katie hugged Magoo tight.

#97Joy put a pillow over her head.

#98Thunder exploded, louder and louder.

#99Above them, the light bulb flashed.

#100Everyone looked up.
