#26As Katie and her mom stepped out of the drugstore, they heard a familiar voice.

#29Katie looked across the street.

#30It's Luke, she said.

#31Luke was sitting at a table in front of Aunt Sally's coffee shop, Fried Pie Heaven.

#32He had taped a sign to the shop window: LIVE BAIT ONE DOZEN WET WORMS $1.

#3300 Luke reached into a big tub of ice and held up a plastic cup.

#34Would you like some worms?

#35he asked with a grin.

#36Sorry, said Katie.

#37We already ate.

#39She looked into the tub.

#40I hope you have enough, she said.

#41I don't have time for the bait business right now.

#42I'm captain of the Donovan Tornado Safety Team.

#43Uh-oh, I forgot all about that, said Luke with a frown.

#44So you're not helping me dig worms anymore?

#45Just then Aunt Sally pushed open the door of the coffee shop.

#46The scent of pie and fresh coffee filled the air outside.

#47Good morning!

#48she exclaimed.

#49Aunt Sally was Mom's sister.

#50Mr. Higgins told our class to get our families ready for tornado season.

#51Luke forgot, tattled Katie.

#52Aunt Sally laughed as she brushed the flour from her apron and said, I guess if a tornado comes, we'll just blow away!

#53Mom and Luke laughed too.

#54Katie frowned and shook her head.

#55She was the only one who seemed to be taking this seriously.

#56Meanwhile Joy and Dad were on the slope above the Donovan pond looking at trees.

#57They had just stopped under two elms.

#58These two trees might work, said Dad.

#60He took a tape measure from his tool belt.

#61Here, hold your end of the tape on this tree, he said to Joy.

#62Then he walked to the other tree, pulling the tape as he went.

#65And this is a perfect spot for a tree house, said Joy.

#66From here, we can see the pond, the house, the chicken coop— everything!

#67The two trees will hold up the back of the tree house, he said.

#68And we'll use two posts to hold up the front.

#69Joy turned toward the house and saw Katie and Magoo racing up the hill.

#70Katie and Mom are back, she said.

#71I saw you from the road, called Katie.

#72Are you going to build the tree house here?

#73Isn't this a perfect spot?

#74said Joy.

#75Katie nodded.

#76It's excellent, she said.

#77I'll be able to watch the storm clouds roll in from the southwest.

#79She looked up into the clear blue sky.

#80Good work, team, she said and ran back down the hill.

#81We better get busy, said Dad.
