Danh sách câu trong bài (79 câu):

#1Look how big its feet are!
#2Eric pointed.
#3How did they find all the bones?
#4Dana raised her hand.
#5All the kids in the class were looking at a dinosaur exhibit.
#6Do you want to know a secret?
#7Miss Bennett, the museum guide, said in a low voice.
#8Those are not real dinosaur bones!
#9But .
#10but .
#11but, Eric stuttered.
#12So dinosaurs never existed?
#13Carol asked timidly.
#14Of course they existed!
#15Miss Bennett laughed.
#16But those bones are not the original bones.
#17Follow me and I will explain.
#18The class followed her into another room.
#19First, who knows where those bones came from?
#20Miss Bennett asked.
#21From dead dinosaurs?
#22Eric answered.
#23They come from fossils!
#24Carol said.
#25You are both right.
#26The dinosaur's dead bones turned into fossils.
#27Miss Bennett switched on a projector.
#28She pointed at the dinosaur on the screen.
#29Look at this dinosaur.
#30Usually, when a dinosaur dies, it decays or another animal eats it.
#31But sometimes the dinosaur is buried before it gets destroyed.
#32Slowly the flesh and skin of the dinosaur rot away.
#33Only the bones are left.
#34Then more and more mud and sand cover the bones.
#35The mud and sand, which are called sediment, press down on the bones.
#36The sediment has water in it.
#37The water has minerals.
#38The minerals soak into the dinosaur bones.
#39Slowly the bone material is replaced by the minerals.
#40The bones become hard rock.
#41Now they are fossils.
#42This process takes a very long time.
#43It takes thousands and thousands of years for the sediment to form heavy layers.
#44These heavy layers turn into sedimentary rock around the fossils.
#45So most fossils are found in this rock.
#46When the slide show was over, Miss Bennett gave everyone a slab of clay.
#47Let's try a simple experiment, she said as she held up her hand.
#48Place your hand on the clay.
#49Pretend that your hand is a dead dinosaur covered with sand and mud.
#50Press down on your hand and imagine it is being covered by more layers of sand and mud.
#51Imagine the sediment keeps pressing for thousands, even millions of years!
#52Ouch!
#53My hand hurts, Miss Bennett!
#54Eric said.
#55Everyone laughed, and Miss Bennett continued her explanation.
#56It took many years for the dinosaur bones to become fossils.
#57Finally scientists dug the fossils out of the sedimentary rock.
#58They had to be very careful not to break the rock.
#59After they cleaned the rock, what did they find?
#60asked Miss Bennett.
#61A fossil!
#62everybody answered.
#63They all held up their slabs of clay.
#64On each one was a handprint.
#65Your handprint is not your actual hand, said Miss Bennett.
#66But we can still see that it was a hand.
#67In the same way, fossils are not the actual bones of a dinosaur.
#68Is that why you said that the dinosaur bones we saw are not real?
#69called out Eric.
#70Yes, you are right.
#71Miss Bennett nodded.
#72Remember, the original bones are replaced by rocklike minerals, Miss Bennett explained.
#73So a fossil is just a model of the original bone, like your handprint.
#74And the dinosaur bones in the exhibit are models of the fossils.
#75Thank you, Miss Bennett, the children said together.
#76We learned a lot today.
#77Come back anytime!
#78Miss Bennett waved.
#79There is still more to learn about the world of fossils.
