Bé hãy lắng nghe giọng bản ngữ và quan sát hình ảnh hoạt hình sinh động của video bên trái.

#17That's not a shorter route, said Tim.

#18The streets are straight.

#19The path in the park is squiggly.

#20A straight line is the shortest distance between two points, said Julie.

#21Doug looked at both routes on the map.

#22I still think it's shorter to go across the park.

#23Hmm, said Julie.

#24The shortest distance across an area is a diagonal.

#25She looked unsure.

#26Let's measure the length of each route on the map.

#27Tim picked up a ruler.

#28I'll measure the streets, he said.

#29Julie wrote down the lengths of the streets.

#30Then she added them together.

#31The street route is ten centimeters.

#32The map scale shows that each centimeter equals two hundred meters, said Tim.

#33So it's two kilometers along the streets.

#34Doug tried to measure the park path.

#35It's hard to follow the squiggly line with the ruler.

#36Tim shook his head.

#37That won't work.

#38I have an idea!

#39said Julie.

#40She laid a piece of string over the path.

#41Then she marked the path's beginning and end on the string.

#42Now we can just measure the string!

#43Julie stretched the string straight.

#44Then Doug used the ruler to measure the distance between the two marks.

#45It's two kilometers.

#46The same distance as the street route!

#47The three kids looked at each other.

#48Which way should we go?

#49asked Tim.

#50Through the park!

#51said Julie.

#52She grinned.

#53We can hear the birds sing before we hear Lisa Byrd!
