#24Dad took the pieces for the sides and quickly dipped them in very hot water.

#25This made the wood easy to bend.

#26Then we had to clamp the pieces to a mold.

#27This kept the wood bent as it dried.

#28While the sides were drying, we cut an opening in the neck for a long, thin piece of metal.

#29The metal supports the neck and makes it strong.

#30The next step was gluing.

#31We glued all the pieces tightly together, then left them to dry overnight.

#32When the glue was dry, we sanded all the surfaces of the guitar to make them smooth.

#33To protect the guitar, we brushed on several layers of protective coating.

#34This also helped bring out the pattern in the wood.

#35We had to wait overnight for each layer to dry.

#36The whole process took a long time, but today I finally attached the strings.

#37My instrument was fni ished!

#38My guitar sounds great too!

#39The strings vibrate when I pluck them, and this produces sound.

#40The length of the string affects the sound.

#41If the string is long, the sound is low.

#42If it is short, the sound is high.

#43When I play the guitar, I can press my fni ger on a string to make it shorter and change the sound.

#44Frets help me know where to press to make the sound that I want.

#45These are small strips of metal across the guitar's neck.

#46The strings alone don't make much sound.

#47That's where the body of the guitar, or sound box, plays an important role.

#48When a string is plucked over the hole in the sound box's top, the sound becomes louder.

#49The strings vibrate the wood as well, also making the sound much louder.

#50Now my guitar is ready to play.

#51I've even written a special song just for it.

#52I can't wait to play it!
