#21I didn't know there was a new pizza place in town.

#23Don't you have pepperoni or Hawaiian pizza?

#26I blurted out.

#27I lifted my cap and started talking—much too fast.

#28Yes, my grandpa owns this place.

#29Today's our grand opening.

#30We don't serve American-style pizza, like pepperoni or Hawaiian.

#31We only have pizza like they do in Italy.

#32My grandpa wants it to be authentic.

#33Awesome, Rachel said.

#34Can we try some?

#35Sure.

#36I tried to act cool.

#37I put two slices on plates and gave them to the girls.

#38Mmm.

#39Delicious!

#40Clara said.

#41Rachel nodded.

#42Much better than pepperoni pizza!

#43What is this called?

#44It's called pizza Margherita.

#45It was named after Queen Margherita.

#46Back in 1889 in Italy, pizza was eaten mostly by workers who needed a quick lunch.

#47But the queen was tired of fancy food.

#48So she asked a pizza maker to make some pizzas.

#49He made one with tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and basil—the colors of the Italian flag!

#50The queen loved it, and the pizza maker named the pizza after her.

#51Soon everybody in Italy started eating pizza.

#52Rachel grinned.

#53We owe a big thanks to that Italian queen!

#54Can we try some other types of pizza?

#55Clara asked.

#56I got some more slices from the kitchen.

#57This is pizza bianca, I said.

#58It's from Rome.

#59There's no cheese—just olive oil and salt.

#60Next the girls tried the Sicilian-style pizza with anchovies—and they liked that too!

#61My family is Italian American too, Rachel said.

#62But no one is good at cooking.

#63You're so lucky your grandpa makes such great food.

#64I smiled.

#65I felt proud of my family's culture—and Grandpa.

#66When the girls left, I went back inside to get more of Grandpa's delicious pizza.

#67And I didn't even care about the apron or the cap anymore.
