#23He invented it in 1974 to test out a design idea.

#24But then he realized people really liked playing with the cube.

#25He decided to manufacture and sell it.

#26He sold a lot of them, right?

#27asked Winn.

#28Rubik's Cube was extremely popular in the 1980s, said Anika.

#29Today it's still popular.

#30In fact, it's one of the world's top- selling toys.

#31Winn grinned.

#32Well, someday I'm going to be the world's speed-cubing champion!

#33Oh, really?

#35Yep, said Winn.

#36There are speed- cubing competitions all over the world.

#37People try to solve the Rubik's Cube as fast as they can.

#38And there are different types of competitions too.

#39Some people solve it with one hand.

#40Others solve it blindfolded.

#41Some people even solve it with their feet!

#42Winn picked up the cube and started twisting it again.

#43A lot of people can solve it in less than ten seconds, he said.

#44How fast are you?

#45asked Anika.

#46Winn gave a sheepish grin.

#47Actually, I haven't solved it at all yet.

#48Don't feel bad, said Anika.

#49It's not easy to solve.

#50There are billions of ways a Rubik's Cube can be scrambled.

#51Winn put the cube down again.

#52This is taking me forever!

#53Anika picked up the cube and started twisting it.

#54A Rubik's Cube can always be solved in fewer than twenty moves.

#55Impossible, said Winn.

#56I'm serious, said Anika as she continued to move the sides around.

#57Thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen .

#59Anika held out the Rubik's Cube.
