#21Grandpa sipped a mouthful of soup from the pot.

#22With a little salt, this chicken soup should be perfect too.

#23I wonder if Katie will make it home in time for lunch.

#24Joy drew two big dots on the cardboard, one with a green marker and one with a red marker.

#25Then she drew a smiley face on the green dot and a frowning face on the red dot.

#26She drew blue zigzags along the edges of the cardboard.

#27She held up her work to admire it.

#28It's done!

#29And so is lunch!

#30Grandpa said.

#31He placed a bowl of soup for Joy on the table.

#32He looked at her invention and scratched his head.

#33It looks good, but .

#35It's a friendship meter!

#36said Joy.

#37With her thumb, she moved the pointer to the green dot.

#38And it's smiling—because you, Grandpa, are the best friend a person could have!

#39Then Joy looked at the clock.

#40I better clean up, she said.

#41It's almost one o'clock—almost time for square-dance practice!

#42Katie was working on her report at the Willow Creek library.

#43She had found a book called Bend and Stretch and another called Fitness for Fun.

#44Muscles are very interesting, Mr. Dexter, Katie said.

#45Mr. Dexter was the Saturday librarian.

#46Did you know there is a special muscle for sticking out your tongue?

#47Katie stuck out her tongue for Mr. Dexter.

#48Mr. Dexter looked at Katie over the top of his glasses.

#49That is interesting, said Mr. Dexter.

#50He continued searching through the library's music CDs.

#51Here it is!

#52he finally said.

#54Perfect! said Katie.

#55She opened the CD case.

#56She unfolded a paper that showed couples doing square-dance steps.

#57I'll take it!

#58Katie loaded everything into her backpack and peeked at her watch.

#59It was time to go!

#60Thank you for your help, Mr. Dexter, she said and spun around.

#61There stood Olivia Sprinkle.

#63Hello! said Olivia.

#64Aloha, good-bye, said Katie.

#66said Mr. Dexter.

#68She's in the fourth grade too.

#69Just then the phone on Mr. Dexter's desk rang.

#70Excuse me, he said.

#71Katie, please show Olivia around the library.

#72But— said Katie.

#73I have to go home.

#74My— Mr. Dexter wasn't listening.

#75He was already busy on the phone.

#76That would be great, Katie!

#77said Olivia.

#78Maybe you can help me with my skin report.

#79It sounds like Miss Smarty-Pants needs help, Katie thought.

#80I know about keeping skin clean and protecting it from the sun, said Olivia.

#81But that's not enough for a whole report.

#82Katie raised her eyebrows.

#83Aren't you going to talk about poison ivy or ticks?

#84she asked.

#85Ticks?

#86What's that?

#87asked Olivia.

#88Katie loved telling people about ticks.

#89You really do need help, she said, sighing.

#90Maybe we should sit down.
