#24As Mazatl and Vinnie walked along, Mandy went to the cocoa bean seller.

#26He looked at her and laughed.

#29Something very precious, she said bravely.

#30The bean seller looked at her coldly.

#32Mandy held out her arm.

#33Her bead bracelet sparkled.

#34The man's eyes grew greedy.

#37From a faraway land, she replied.

#38The man stared and then handed over the beans.

#39Mandy gave him the bracelet.

#40Good day, sir, she said, and ran to find her brother.

#41Vinnie and Mazatl were going to meet Mazatl's papa.

#42Suddenly, Vinnie heard people cheering and shouting.

#43Attracted by the sounds, he left Mazatl's side.

#44Not far away, Vinnie was amazed to find a large outdoor stadium.

#45Two teams were playing a game similar to basketball.

#46The players were trying to get a hard rubber ball into a high hoop.

#47They did not use their hands or feet, only their elbows, hips, and knees.

#48That's impossible!

#49Vinnie said.

#50Then something else caught his eye.

#51Behind the stadium was a tall tower.

#52It looked like a pyramid, but the top was flat and had two buildings on it.

#53Many steps led up to the top of the pyramid.

#54I wonder what that is?

#55he said.

#56Meanwhile, Mandy found Mazatl near his father's stall.

#57She handed him the bag of cocoa beans.

#58But how?

#59Mazatl asked, amazed.

#60Please, it is my gift to your family.

#61You have been so kind to us, she said.

#62Who are you?

#63he asked suddenly.

#64You are different from us.

#65But before she could reply, loud drums began beating.

#66Mazatl! said his father.

#67The sacrifices are about to begin.

#68Let us go to the temple immediately.
