#11Thank you, Wukong.

#16And the next morning they let the travelers leave without any argument.
#17Good luck! called Lady Kou as they departed.
#18* * * The Tang Monk and his companions traveled for many more months.
#19Through rain and snow, heat and cold, they slowly continued west.
#20One day the road went into a beautiful land.
#21There were flowers and magnificent trees.
#22People smiled at the travelers and offered food.
#23The Tang Monk stared in amazement.
#24What is this place?
#25We are in the west, said Wukong.
#26We are very close to the Western Paradise.
#27A woman held out a basket of plums.
#28Bajie scooped up a handful.
#29I love this place.
#30Look up ahead, said Wujing, pointing to a row of tall buildings.
#31It's an abbey.
#32The road led through a large gate in the abbey.

#34A young man greeted them.
#35Are you the Tang Monk? asked the man.
#36Yes, said the monk.
#37He waved toward the rest of the group.
#38And these are my companions.
#39You've finally arrived!
#40The man laughed.
#41I was starting to think that the bodhisattva Guanyin had tricked me.
#42She told me you would arrive in a year or so.
#43But that was over ten years ago!
#44The Tang Monk bowed.
#45Forgive me.
#46I wanted to arrive much sooner.
#47But we faced many dangers and delays along the way.
#48Bajie snorted.
#49And this place wasn't very easy to find either.
#50The man smiled.
#51There is no need to apologize.
#52I'm the Great Immortal of the Golden Head, and this abbey is my home.
#53Behind it lies the Western Paradise.
#54Come inside and rest before you continue.
#55Servants filled tubs with warm perfumed water, and the travelers took baths.
#56It feels good to get clean, said Bajie.
#57I haven't had a bath in months.
#58Wukong laughed.
#59Now we won't have to cover our noses when you're near!
#60Bajie snorted and splashed water at Wukong.
#61The monkey splashed back.
#62Everyone laughed.
#63After their baths the Tang Monk put on the Buddhist robe Guanyuin had given him.
#64Then the travelers enjoyed a large meal with the immortal.
#65Servants brought trays loaded with noodles, vegetables, tofu, and steamed buns.
#66In the morning the immortal led the group out the back door of the abbey.
#67The road continued west, through a land even more beautiful and magical.
#68Birds sang as animals leaped playfully through the flowers.
#69Brilliant light sparkled on everything.
#70In the distance stood a huge mountain.
#71Its peak was hidden by clouds.
#72The Tang Monk stared silently at the mountain.
#73Wukong put his hand on the monk's shoulder.
#74That's the Spirit Mountain, Master.
#75We're almost at the end of our journey.
#76A smile spread across the monk's face.
#77The travelers thanked the immortal.
#78Filled with energy now, they hurried down the road.
#79The steep slopes of the Spirit Mountain towered over them.
