#31He lifted his sleeve, revealing a metal ring around his arm.

#32* * * Carrying food, Wukong returned to where he'd left his friends.

#33When he didn't see them, he looked up toward the monastery.

#34The building was gone.

#35In its place was a dark cave.

#36Wukong shook his head.

#37That monastery was an illusion.

#38A demon must have made it to trick people.

#39He stamped his foot.

#40Why don't my friends believe me when I warn them about demons?

#41He put down the food and rushed to the cave.

#42Open up! shouted the monkey.

#43If you don't, I'll turn this entire mountain into a pile of rubble!

#44The door flew open, and One-Horned Buffalo stepped out.

#45Why are you yelling? demanded the demon.

#46It's rude!

#47Release my friends! yelled Wukong.

#48One-Horned Buffalo folded his arms.

#49I'm not going to release your friends.

#50They're criminals.

#51They stole my valuable silk vests.

#52That's a lie, said Wukong.

#53The Tang Monk is a good and honest man.

#54He would never steal.

#55I can't believe you would even suggestIt was the pig, said the demon.

#56The monkey scratched his head.

#57Well, then I believe you.

#58But that doesn't matter!

#59Wukong pulled out his iron bar and swung it at the demon.

#60One-Horned Buffalo dodged the bar, which smashed into the mountainside.

#61Rocks exploded and tumbled down the mountain's slope.

#62The demon glared at Wukong.

#65He rushed at Wukong, and the monkey swung his iron bar again.

#66The demon blocked it with his arm.

#67Ow! cried One-Horned Buffalo, rubbing his arm.

#68He fell to his knees and turned his back to the monkey.

#69My iron bar is not an ordinary weapon, said Wukong.

#70It's extremely heavy.

#71He noticed the demon reaching up his sleeve.

#74Instantly Wukong felt himself being pulled toward the ring.

#75Using all of his strength, the monkey leaped into the air.

#76But the bar was ripped from his hands.

#77It flew into the metal ring and vanished.
