#28I made a face too.

#29After my last invention, I was pretty sick of vegetables myself.

#30Dad, can we hike up to the lookout tower? asked Josh.

#31Sure, said Mr.

#32We'll go right after lunch.

#33But after lunch Caswell fell sound asleep in the Lake Lounge.

#34You kids can walk up to the tower, said Mr.

#35I'll stay here with Caswell.

#36But first I'd better go find a blanket for him.

#37Wait until you see my new invention, I said when we got outside.

#38What is it? asked Jenny.

#39I grinned.

#40It's something called rainbow trail pellets.

#41I invented the pellets in case we get lost on the trail.

#42After all, we're not in the city anymore.

#43We're deep in the wilderness.

#44I reached into my pocket and took out four bags.

#45Each one was filled with brightly colored pellets.

#46Josh peered at the bag.

#47Those are Sparky's hamster pellets.

#48But they're all different colors.

#49I dyed them with food coloring, I said proudly.

#50That way they'll work better.

#51How does this invention work exactly? asked Molly.

#52First you open the bag, I explained.

#53Then you put the bag in your pocket.

#54The pellets will dribble out as we walk.

#55I get it, said Josh.

#56If we take the wrong trail and get stranded, people can just follow the pellets!

#57I said.

#58The four of us started up one of the trails to the lookout tower.

#59When we reached the top, we were amazed by the view.

#60You can see for miles up here! said Jenny.

#61Josh reached around to check his back pocket.

#62My bag of pellets is empty.

#63Mine is too, said Molly and Jenny.

#64I felt in my pocket.

#65My bag was also empty.

#66The pellets worked perfectly!

#67I declared.

#68If we were stranded, people would be able to find us.

#69It's another one of Iggy's brilliant inventions! said Josh.

#70I'm glad we're not really stranded though, said Jenny.

#71We explored the lookout tower for a while and then headed back to the hotel.

#72When we arrived back at the Lake Lounge room, Caswell was wide-awake.

#73He was playing checkers with Mr.

#74Nearby Mr.

#75Scary, the hotel manager, was wringing his hands.

#76A disaster has happened! he cried.

#77All my vegetables have disappeared!

#78My vegetable parade is ruined!

#79Scary was right.

#80The vegetables for the parade had vanished.

#81I will find the thief who stole my vegetables, cried Mr.
