#17I don't understand exactly how it works, I told Mr.

#18Well, he replied, imagine one person in a bright room and another person in a dark room.

#19The mirror is between them.

#20Okay, I said, picturing that in my mind.

#21Now what?

#22When the person in the bright room looks at the mirror, all he sees is himself, Mr.

#23Chen went on.

#24Got it, I said.

#25Chen grinned.

#26But when the person in the dark room looks at the mirror, he sees something different.

#27He sees the other person through the glass!

#28Wow, I said.

#29By now I was thinking hard.

#30I was thinking so hard, my brain hurt.

#31I think I know how to make a magic thinking box, I said finally.

#32How? asked Jenny.

#33Can I borrow your one-way mirror, Mr.

#34I asked.

#35Sure, said Mr.

#36I actually have an extra one.

#37He picked up a smaller one-way mirror and handed it to me.

#38Now I just need scissors, a flashlight, and a cardboard box, I said.

#39I ran upstairs and got some scissors.

#40I also got Molly so she could join in the fun.

#41Jenny found a flashlight, and Josh got an old box from the Green Apple Supermarket.

#42First I cut a hole out of the cardboard box with the scissors.

#43It was just a tiny bit smaller than the one-way mirror.

#44Next I fitted the mirror into the hole.

#45Now, I said, who wants to try the magic thinking box first?

#46Me! cried Molly.

#47Let me try it!

#48Okay, I said.

#49Put the box over your head.

#50Molly put the box over her head.

#51It's dark in here, she said in a muffled voice.

#52I can't see anything at all.

#53Just a minute!

#54I handed her the flashlight.

#55Now turn this on and shine it into the box, I told her.

#56Molly turned on the flashlight inside the box.

#57Then I turned off the light in the room.

#58Can you see us?

#59I asked Molly.

#60No, said Molly.

#61All I can see is myself in the mirror.

#62We can see you though! cried Josh.

#63It works!

#64I shouted.

#65No, it doesn't, said Molly.

#66You can see me, but you can't tell what I'm thinking!

#67I looked at her face through the glass.

#68Her eyes were bright, and she was grinning.

#69She looks excited, I thought.

#70But she also looked a little suspicious of my box.

#71You're thinking that you want me to put on the box, I said.

#72So that you can tell what I'm thinking.

#73Molly gasped.

#74That's right, Iggy!

#75She yanked the box off her head and looked at me.

#76Iggy, she said.

#77You did it!

#78You invented a magic thinking box!

#79Way to go! said Josh, giving me a high five.

#80I grinned.
