#30He pointed to a rocking chair.

#31And Bob always comes over to greet us.

#32Bob was Luke's big, black, scary dog.

#33He growled and barked at everyone, but he didn't mind the doctor and Tommy.

#34And he was friendly with Jip, too.

#35Tommy looked through the window.

#36There's nobody inside, he remarked.

#37It was very strange indeed.

#38Jip kept his nose close to the ground.

#39Suddenly, he let out a low growl.

#40What is it, Jip?

#41asked the doctor.

#42Jip lifted his head and let out a pitiful howl.

#43He was clearly upset.

#44Dr. Dolittle kept asking him what the matter was,

#45but Jip only howled more loudly.

#46Finally, Jip said to the doctor,

#47I have to go quickly.

#48Jip, what on earth is happening?

#49Dr. Dolittle shouted,

#50I don't have time to explain.

#51He barked, and with that, Jip quickly ran off.

#52They returned home without Jip.

#53Is Jip back yet?

#54Dr. Doolittle asked when he walked in the door.

#55We thought he was with you.

#56Dab-Dab said confused.

#59Dr. Doolittle told the others about the curlew,

#60about Luke, and about Jip's strange behavior.
